Political education and the formation of revolutionary ideals among Vietnamese students in the digital age: The role of national cultural values and digital information evaluation competence

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between political education and the formation of revolutionary ideals among Vietnamese students in the digital age, while considering the roles of national cultural values and digital information evaluation competence in this process. The study combines document analysis with a quantitative survey of 227 administrators, lecturers, and students from eight universities in Vietnam using a five-point Likert scale. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, mean scores, standard deviations (SD), Cronbach’s alpha reliability testing, factor analysis, and other appropriate statistical techniques. The findings indicate that political education plays a discernible role in shaping students’ awareness, social responsibility, and commitment to contributing to society; national cultural values help strengthen the connection between individual development and responsibility toward the community and the country. Digital information evaluation competence, however, remains an area requiring further development, particularly in source verification, evidence cross-checking, and the identification of unreliable information. The study proposes integrating political education, national cultural values education, and digital information competence within higher education to support the formation of students’ revolutionary ideals in the digital context.
